Congratulations! You’re a dad with all the rights and privileges that come with it. I bet you never thought you could be so exhausted. I bet you never thought you would clean up so much poop, pee, and spit up. I bet you never thought you could love someone so much.
Being a dad is pretty awesome, but it is also a lot of hard work. You make sacrifices or trade-offs every day. I was able to sit down with a friend who has been a dad for a while and has raised some pretty phenomenal children. As we discussed the word priority he shared that sometimes you have to make trade-offs in life to keep what is priority exactly that…priority.
Many dads choose to make their careers the priority. Some make their recreational activities priority, and others make their family the priority. Something is always going to trump the other. So what is your trump card? I choose my family. Sometimes it’s very difficult, but I am irreplaceable as my daughter’s father. I am irreplaceable as my wife’s husband, but my material assets are replaceable. Although it may be difficult, my career is also replaceable. So now you are a dad. You are irreplaceable. Think about that. What trade-offs are you willing to make? What do consider to be priority?
